New Real Estate Under Construction
I've been working on a few large Fairy houses and just put this one in the studio to dry. The larger houses are heavier and have a greater chance of cracking, so I cover them loosely with plastic to slow dry cycle. This house is constructed using Cone 10 stoneware that will fire to a light beige color. I rolled the clay and cut each piece by hand, then stamped a brick texture onto the surface of the exterior walls. I used a carving tool to carve a wood texture onto the roof and on individual shingles, which I attached to the front and back of the house using slip. I also used a few shingles on the roof, which is better seen in the picture below.
I really enjoy making these houses and love adding the little details that makes each house unique. This piece will take 3 to 4 weeks to fully dry, since it is Fall here in Austin and with the holidays around the corner, I probably wont work on this piece again until 2020.
